PRPD Prez Announces Upcoming Retirement

Friends and colleagues,

At the just completed annual PRPD board retreat, I informed the board that I will be retiring when my current term as president ends at the end of this year.  At that time I will complete eight years as PRPD president while reaching my 67th birthday.

As our press release indicates, I have been actively involved with PRPD since 1989, more than 2/3 of my public radio career.  I feel that this is just the right timing for both my own life and the future of the organization. I am truly optimistic about the future of PRPD and believe that this is an opportunity for a new leader to take the next leap in serving the content mission of public radio in its service to the American public.  The current board of directors is one of the strongest in a long line of effective boards and I am certain that they have the understanding and insight to lead the organization forward and select a stellar successor.  We had a very productive planning retreat in Chicago and the beginnings of a hiring plan have been established.

I intend to stay completely involved in PRPD’s work until the day I leave and to serve as a resource as long as it is useful to the organization.  While leaving full time work, I do plan to take on projects and some limited consulting, but that is for next year.  In the meantime, I look forward to seeing many of you at this year’s conference and other gatherings.

Thank you for the honor of serving the public radio/media community as a representative of the content community.

 Arthur
