Magazine Looks at New Life for NPR West

In a recent article titled, The Second Coming of NPR West, Los Angeles Magazine writes:
"Since September, when WATC began originating from NPR West, such growing pains have been inevitable as the 25,000-square-foot Culver City facility has been transformed from a moribund satellite operation into a state-of-the-art production house. Where there once was a skeleton crew, there is today a staff of 60, including several transfers from D.C. and new hires—among them (Arun) Rath (in  photo), a former director of the defunct Talk of the Nation, a senior producer of On the Media, and more recently a reporter for PBS’s Frontline and WGBH’s radio program The World."
And adds:
"What remains to be seen, though, is whether the network will follow through on a stated desire to not just generate programming from California but infuse that programming with insights and reporting that bring the state and the surrounding region to life. After all, this isn’t the first time NPR has made a lot of noise about Los Angeles, and last time it didn’t go so well."
