KC Public Radio & TV to Collaborate

Kansas City public broadcasters are joining forces.

KCUR and public television station KCPT announced a news collaboration on Thursday. A statement from the two pointed out this is not a merger, but instead is "... a pooling of resources and a commitment to partner on reporting and engagement projects."

The two will initially combine forces on health care and agriculture reporting. They will also create a public insight network database to help journalists connect with sources.

A post on KCUR's website quotes GM Nico Leone:
“For generations, American journalism has been dominated by the for-profit sector, but dramatic changes in the economics of that industry has led to coverage gaps – gaps that are of increasing concern to the public."
