CPRN to End Classical Broadcasts

The Classical Public Radio Network has informed its affiliates that it will cease its classical music syndication service some time this summer. The exact timeline will be worked out with client stations to ease their transition to other options.

CPRN is a joint venture of KUSC, Los Angeles and Colorado Public Radio, with the service distributed by NPR. Staff of the network will be integrated into the individual stations. Karla Walker will become Program Director at KVOD, Denver and Gail Eichenthal will hold that position at KUSC.

The exit of CPRN leaves public radio with two 24-hour classical services, The Beethoven Satellite Network from WFMT and Classical 24 from American Public Media/PRI. CPRN will now turn its attention to the role of classical music on the internet.
