Third Coast Audio Festival

Anyone who is concerned about the future of public radio can take heart from the robust attendance here in Chicago at the Third Coast Audio Festival. Now in its 7th year, over 350 producers, many of them in their 20's, have gathered to listen to audio pieces, share ideas, learn from veterans and celebrate the craft of making audio.

There's an energy and vitality here that evokes the early days of public radio. Its clear that the expansion of "bandwidth" - streams, podcasting, online audio for print publishers, etc. - and the ease of digital production has fueled a renewed interest in audio production in young people. Hopefully, we in public radio will find ways to connect some of this talent with listeners - they are our future!

Audio of Third Coast Conference sessions will be posted on their website following the conference.
